EVJC Performs with MCC Jazz Band - For evening of modern and classic big band music!

The next performance by the East Valley Jazz Cooperative will take place at the MCC Performing Arts Center (1520 South Longmore, Mesa, AZ 85202) on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 @ 7:00 PM.

The EVJC is privileged to share the stage at this event with the Mesa Community College Jazz Band, under the direction of Paul Brewer.

Led by Valley Jazz Cooperative Director Russell Schmidt, the EVJC is comprised of outstanding high school and junior high students. The group will be performing big band charts by composers/arrangers including Duke Ellington, Vince Mendoza, and John Scofield. The Valley Jazz Cooperative program is an educational initiative of Music Serving the Word.

Following the opening EVJC set, the Mesa Community College Jazz Band will take the stage. Paul Brewer will lead his band through a challenging program of works by writers including Mike Crotty, Thad Jones, and Ellen Rowe. Additionally, Paul (baritone sax) will join the EVJC for one tune as a featured soloist on the first half of the concert; Russ (piano) will reciprocate on the second half, soloing on a piece with the MCC Jazz Band.
