VJCP541-FBB – Flexible Instrumentation Jazz Ensemble Chart, which has been written to sound complete with as few as 11 pieces or as many as a full (18-piece) big band. The instrumentation is as follows:
Alto Sax I, Alto Sax II, Tenor Sax I, Tenor Sax II (opt.), Baritone Sax (opt.)
Trumpet I, Trumpet II, Trumpet III, Trumpet IV (opt.)
Trombone I, Trombone II, Trombone III (opt.), Bass Trombone (IV) (opt.)
Guitar (opt.), Piano, Bass, Drums, Vibraphone (opt.)
Description: A New Orleans holiday feel bursts forth in O Christmas Tree, presenting the tune in a traditional 3/4 chorale style before breaking out into 4/4 even-eighths N’Awlins 3-2 streetbeat and Mardi Gras Indian grooves.
A front line of trumpet, tenor sax, and trombone with notated rhythm parts details the funky feels, and soloists from anywhere in the band can improvise (using only a concert F major scale) and sound great! Solo backgrounds reference NOLA tunes, and a holiday jam section celebrates a medley of overlapping seasonal themes to cap this rousing chart from arranger Antonio J. García.
This arrangement is of intermediate-to-advanced difficulty.
