VJCP516-FBB – Flexible Instrumentation Jazz Ensemble Chart, which has been written to sound complete with as few as 11 pieces or as many as a full (18-piece) big band. The instrumentation is as follows:

NOTE: This chart also comes with an alternate part for Soprano Sax (replacing Alto Sax I), offering a different instrumental color as the main featured soloist on No Shadow.
 
Description: A beautiful, pensive ballad from Dave Rivello, No Shadow is an exceptional showcase for alto saxophone. In addition to putting the spotlight on lead alto (as both a melodic and an improvising soloist), there is space for piano to solo as well.
 
This wonderful piece is a great selection to program in the middle of a festival set, showcasing a performer who is typically among the strongest players in a high school jazz band. As is so often the case with ballads, the ensemble will need to demonstrate real patience in order to perform this piece to greatest effect. Good control (of ensemble balance, dynamics, tempo) and pacing (as with the dramatic shape of the chart) are critical for a top-notch performance.
 
This big band arrangement is of intermediate difficulty.
