VJCP526-FBB – Flexible Instrumentation Jazz Ensemble Chart, which has been written to sound complete with as few as 11 pieces or as many as a full (18-piece) big band. The instrumentation is as follows:
Alto Sax I, Alto Sax II, Tenor Sax I, Tenor Sax II (opt.), Baritone Sax (opt.)
Trumpet I, Trumpet II, Trumpet III, Trumpet IV (opt.)
Trombone I, Trombone II, Trombone III (opt.), Bass Trombone (IV) (opt.)
Guitar (opt.), Piano, Bass, Drums, Vibraphone (opt.)
Description: This evocative, new ballad from composer Dave Rivello puts your trumpet soloist front and center! After an opening statement of the theme by the soloist, with expressive interjections from other sections of the band, there is an opportunity for the pianist to solo. The featured trumpeter returns to solo, carrying the piece forward. Eventually the full ensemble takes over and, following a climactic peak, the trumpet soloist returns with the theme, leading to a brief solo on the final harmony.
In That Moment is a very modern-sounding ballad, with hints of modality and an elliptical, searching quality about it. At times reflective, at times dramatic, it is a great change of pace in a concert set, as well as a wonderful showcase for a talented trumpet soloist.
This big band arrangement is of intermediate difficulty.
