VJCP537-FBB – Flexible Instrumentation Jazz Ensemble Chart, which has been written to sound complete with as few as 11 pieces or as many as a full (18-piece) big band. The instrumentation is as follows:
 
Alto Sax I, Alto Sax II, Tenor Sax I, Tenor Sax II (opt.), Baritone Sax (opt.)
Trumpet I, Trumpet II, Trumpet III, Trumpet IV (opt.)
Trombone I, Trombone II, Trombone III (opt.), Bass Trombone (IV) (opt.)
Guitar (opt.), Piano, Electric Bass, Drums, Vibraphone (opt.)
 
Description: This new arrangement of the familiar English folk song opens with a chorale-style treatment of the theme, alternating between 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures. It is a testament to Dave Rivello’s deft writing skills that this classic melody works so well in both meters. After the opening chorale, the tempo doubles, moving into a funk feel for the next statement of the theme. A 3/4 jazz waltz conception appears intermittently, contrasting effectively with the 4/4 funk feel. Solos are for Alto Sax I, Piano, and Drums.
 
This big band arrangement is of intermediate difficulty.
