VJCP522-FBB – Flexible Instrumentation Jazz Ensemble Chart, which has been written to sound complete with as few as 11 pieces or as many as a full (18-piece) big band. The instrumentation is as follows:
 
Alto Sax I, Alto Sax II, Tenor Sax I, Tenor Sax II (opt.), Baritone Sax (opt.)
Trumpet I, Trumpet II, Trumpet III, Trumpet IV (opt.)
Trombone I, Trombone II, Trombone III (opt.), Bass Trombone (IV) (opt.)
Guitar (opt.), Piano, Bass, Drums, Vibraphone (opt.)
 
Description: Particle Effect is a uniquely conceived composition for jazz ensemble by Tom Davis. Constructed as an example of programmatic music, it seeks to evoke images of—and perhaps even imitate—an effervescent dispersion of visual effects found in many video games.
 
The piece is written in a jazz-rock/fusion style. It features a lengthier solo section for Tenor Sax (and potentially other soloists drawn from the rhythm section). It also includes an open section on an abbreviated (four-bar) form designed so that anyone in the band can improvise on the chart’s infectious groove.
 
This big band arrangement is of advanced difficulty.
